I found this nativity set a few weeks ago and knew instantly what we were going to do with it. The boy & I gathered a few supplies from our stash, picked up a couple of accessories from Hobby Lobby and went to work building our enchanted little fairy house.
Princess and I built a little fairy house a few years ago, and when I saw this abandoned nativity scene, I knew my youngest boy would be over the moon to make one too. We rounded up our supplies of peat moss, glue gun & sticks and the few little treasures we rounded up to accessorize.
I always have bags and bags of this moss. I do craft with it from time to time, but never know why I have quite so much. In this case, it worked out because I also had a ton of little faux mossy rocks to use inside for décor.
Initially, I started hot gluing the moss to the roof, but the glue wasn’t melting as fast as I needed it to. Instead, I grabbed the Tacky spray glue and within minutes, the roof and floor were covered and dry. The other method would have taken three times as long and the boy was already itching to get in to play, as I was pressing the last bit in place.
When all was said and done, he couldn’t keep his hands to himself, but this kid is so happy and who can deny that face!?
And the fairy house stands alone. For maybe five minutes. He took it back inside to play with it. Because it lights up. These cute little wire lights were $12.99 + 40% off in the Spring Dept. at Hobby Lobby. I want to put them on everything. I just wish they had more colors.
The sweet little bunnies were a thrift store score. They came as floral picks on a wire stake. I trimmed them off and plucked them inside. I couldn’t resist at $0.19 each and what better score for a Spring time craft with Easter just around the corner. The gnome was a Hobby Lobby score for $3.99 + 40% off in the Spring Dept. The sign was $1.99 + 40% as well and the turtle came from the boys’ room.
It’s been two weeks since we put the fairy house together and he still plays with it daily. The weather has been way too gross and rainy to take it outside for the fairies. Since it has been inside, miniature horses, elephants, frogs, and superheroes have stopped by for visits and playtime and has been enjoyed by all.
