Transformation Tuesday: {Bright & Cheery Accent Chair & Vintage Side Table}

Welcome to Transformation Tuesday, a place where Monday’s junk is transformed into glammed up treasures.  This week, I am featuring two gorgeous pieces I scored from a friend’s junk stash {Hi Jana!}.  While free furniture makeovers are my absolute favorite, cheap ones are always second best!  These two were in great physical shape, but needed a little brightening and pop which is exactly what I gave them.  It’s hard to let such pretty, cheerful furniture go when Spring flowers are blooming and Easter is just around the corner but they have found loving homes and I am happy to see them being enjoyed.

I mixed up this gorgeous deep aqua color some time ago.  In fact, I can’t even remember what I was going to do with it.

I opened some containers and saw it there begging to be used on this drab, white chair with beautiful curves.

After it was transformed, I was in love.

I’m not going to lie, I moved it all over the house trying to find the perfect spot even if it was just temporary until the new owner picked it up.

Then, I went and did something I never do.  I mixed a batch of yellow paint.

Vintage yellow side table ohmygluestick4I always steer away from yellow hues because my people detest it.  I had no idea how much they were repulsed until I painted this table and said I was keeping it.  They booed, they hissed, they made fake gagging and vomit sounds.  The Hubbs and Princess were the most vocal about their opinions, so I knew there was no way I could keep this one without a fight.

This little side/coffee table lived a good life, but like anyone who’s lived several decades, it was tired.

The grooved legs and scalloped apron are my favorite accents.

What started out as a drab little vintage table from the 50’s turned into a sunny little accent piece.

Everything I’ve painted here has been done with my own homemade chalk paint by using the latex paints I have on hand and mixing them based on the recipe below. I have gobs of paint, but when I need something new, I always shop the “oops” section at Lowes. You can’t beat a $5 can of paint, and I never pay full price. If it’s retail, then I don’t need it.

Easy Chalk Paint Recipe:

2 cups latex paint

6 TBSP Plaster of Paris

3 TBSP water

Mix water and Plaster first until smooth. Mix in paint until smooth. Store leftovers in airtight container for up to a week. (I’ve started keeping it stored in mason jars which keeps for quite a long time. Just shake now and again).

That wraps up this installment of Transformation Tuesday. As you can see, I keep as much as I part with. Such is the life of a junker like me. Stay tuned for my next segment of Transformation Tuesday or click here to see what I’ve recently transformed.

For more junkin’ pleasure, check out my Junky Monday Roundup posts to keep tabs on what I score from week to week. Until next time.

XO,
Tommie

West Elm seems to really have the Rustic Modern down. Love the arrangement, the coffee table, and the lamp paired with the natural tree stump side table! #lovligianna
